Elevated work platforms used for asbestos removal – Horsley Park
- magda
Perfect Labour Hire was assigned the job of complex asbestos removal from Austral Brick Plant 3 located at 738/780 Old Wallgrove Rd, Hosley Park NSW 2175. This project was completed in a year adhering to stringent environmental and safety regulations throughout.
The project aimed not only to demolish the structure but also to ensure safe removal and disposal of asbestos, while minimizing the environmental impact.
Full encapsulation of the dryers were employed to encapsulate asbestos and asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) and prevent exposure risks, facilitating efficient and safe demolition.
Elevated work platforms (EWPs), such as scissor lifts and boom lifts, played an important role in providing extensive access to the demolition site. These specialized equipment enabled workers to reach high and difficult-to-access areas ensuring smooth execution.
The first step involved clearing the interior of the warehouse following the removal of the asbestos roof sheeting process. An oxy cutting method was implemented to safely melt bolts and remove sheets in whole pieces. Despite the challenges of working at heights and handling asbestos rigorous safety protocols and gear prevented any exposure.
This approach not only ensured worker safety but also facilitated efficient progress in preparing the site for the later demolition phases.
As the project approached its final stages another challenge that our team tackled smartly were the voids between the bricks of the dryer which had potential friable asbestos settling inside the voids spaces, as a preventive measure PVA glue was applied inside these voids. This additional step ensured that any asbestos fibers present would be securely sealed, preventing exposure during the removal process.
